The State Key Laboratory of Power Transmission Equipment and System Security and New Technology was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2007, and officially opened to the public in 2010, and was reorganized in 2023. It was approved to established the State Key Laboratory of Power Transmission Equipment Technology(SKL-PET), with Chongqing University and China Electrical Equipment Group Co., Ltd as the joint supporting units.
The SKL-PET is oriented towards the national strategic needs of developing autonomous, green, and intelligent transmission and transformation equipment in the construction of new power systems. It focuses on the key scientific issues of safe service and green environmental protection of transmission and transformation equipment, and mainly focuses on three major tasks of transmission and transformation equipment design theory and technology, green environmental protection technology, and intelligent technology. It solves the "bottleneck" problem of equipment independent design and key core components, and realizes the fundamental leap of China's transmission and transformation technology from "localization" to "localization", from "following" to "first-class" to "leading".
The SKL-PET has leading advantages in the design of transmission and transformation equipment, green environmental protection, and intelligence in China. The design of external insulation in complex environments of equipment has achieved international leading level results, which are irreplaceable and provide key core technical support for the design of China's first ultra-high voltage AC transmission project and DC ultra-high voltage project; Developed China's first 220kV plant insulated oil transformer and 126kV environmental protection switch equipment, playing a demonstration and leading role in China; Adhering to the research direction of monitoring the status and reliability analysis of transmission and transformation equipment for a long time, with significant advantages, has won two national scientific and technological awards in this field.
In the next five years, the SKL-PET will focus on tackling new technologies such as independent design methods, independent high-end components, environmentally friendly insulation, and active safety protection for power transmission and transformation equipment. The SKL-PET will develop the first set of high-end power transmission and transformation equipment, including ±800kV converter transformers and 1000kV direct output transformers, which are completely independently designed and manufactured, breaking the technological blockade of foreign enterprises. In the next 10 years, the SKL-PET will build a full chain theoretical and technical system for digital design, green manufacturing, and intelligent and safe operation of transmission and transformation equipment, achieving landmark achievements with international leading levels, achieving a leap from independent control to original innovation and international leadership, and driving the leapfrog development of China's transmission and transformation equipment industry.
